Wind Mitigation and 4-Point Inspections
Save on your property insurance premiums!
Would you like to save money on your homeowners insurance?
According to Florida Statute 626.0629, insurance companies are required to offer Florida homeowners "discounts, credits, or other rate differentials..." for construction techniques that reduce damage and loss in windstorms.
In most cases the homeowners discounts the first year are more than the inspection cost.
What are we checking during a Wind Mitigation Inspection?
Roof Covering: When was the roof installed and if it meets the 1994 or 2002 building standards.
Roof Deck Attachment: We check what type of roof decking is on the home and how is it attached. If the roof decking stapled or nailed. We check the length of the nails and how far apart they are spaced.
Roof to Wall Attachment: If the roof truss system attached with toe nailing, hurricane clips, single wrapped strapping or double wrap strapping.
Roof Geometry: If roof a Hip or an other type of design. A Hip roof is shaped like a pyramid on all four sides of the home.
Secondary Water Barrier: Does the roof have a secondary water barrier installed? Documentation from your roofer or pictures of the installation is required to qualify for this possible discount.
Opening Protection: What type of wind borne debris protection installed on the home and the rating associated with the protection devices. To qualify for this potential discount, 100% of all openings need to be covered with Hurricane rated protection.
Four Point Inspections
Your insurance company may ask you for a 4-point inspection in order to write or renew your insurance policy. Usually this request is made due to the age of the home (usually 25 and older). This inspection is designed to give the insurance company information of the four major features of the home.
1. Roof
2. HVAC
3. Plumbing
4. Electrical
This inspection is not a detailed home inspection and is not a wind mitigation inspection to get discounts on your insurance. It is used to by the insurance companies for older homes.
